The Town of Paris Highway Department consists of 10 dedicated employees under the direction of Highway Superintendent James Canaguier.
Each season the scope of their duties change. With the guidance of James Canaguier and Deputy Superintendent Wayne Inglis the town roads are kept in excellent condition.
Seasonal activities include:
WINTER
Lower Cedar Lake Rd and Latus Rd are seasonal roads and are not plowed during the winter months
There are 72 miles of roads to be plowed and sanded in the winter months.
44 1/2 miles of roads are owned by the Town of Paris
27 1/2 miles of roads are County Roads ( the County Pays the Town to Plow and Sand their roads)
Plowing or snow blowing into the street is unsafe and against the law
Town plows will remove snow as close to the mailboxes as possible, however, the removal around the box is the homeowner's responsibility.
CHRISTMAS TREES
Collection begins the week after Christmas.
Please no metal or plastic, as the trees are chipped.
SPRING-SUMMER
Brush pick-up usually takes place the first week of May and will continue the first week of each month thru October.
Brush should be no larger than 4 inches in diameter and 10 feet long. Please pile parallel to the road.Limited to 1 truck load per resident.
Grass clipping will not be accepted.
Dirt, rocks, glass,wood, metal, paper corrugated boxes, stumps, root balls or logs will not be accepted.
All professional contractors are responsible for the removal of all their customers debris.
All town roads are swept to remove sand and debris starting in March if weather permits thru April.
During summer months the department repairs infrastructure including:
catch basins, manholes, patch pot holes etc.
Paving and blacktopping roads, approximately 2 miles per year.
Seals 1 to 2 miles of roads per year to improve their life.
The Highway crew digs ditches, replaces pipes, repairs guide posts, replaces signs, mows 44 miles of roads sides and maintains the Paris Town Parks, Mowing, Pools and equipment.
FALL
Leaf pick-up
Leaves need to be raked to the road's edge to be pick-up.
Please do not rake in ditches. October thru the middle of November.
NO brush pick-up during leaf season.
Winter preparations are underway. Sand and salt are stockpiled and plows and sanders are installed on trucks.
